The Dolphins, Jets, and Patriots all have nine wins and five loses. Each are competing not only for their division, but also a Wild Card spot. The Pats have probably the easiest path because they are a hot team and they don't have to face a big time rival to end the season. The Jets and Fins game might end up telling who makes the playoffs or who doesn't. I believe though that the Jets and/or Dolphins will make the playoffs because each are facing weak opponents and their game against each other won't really matter in the end. The Patriots I don't think will make the playoffs because they will be on cruise control and won't be motivated to play hard. Therefore, the Jets or Dolphins will win the division and go on to the playoffs. To think that the Dolphins were 1 and 15 last year to this is amazing, but you got to thank the league for giving them such a weak schedule.
Who do you think will win the division? And who will win in week 17, Fins or Jets?

Joe Sakic
The captain of the Colorado Avalanche got injured this week. He is already out because of back problems, but this is another one of those injuries that is weird, but funny. Sakic lives in Colorado where it snows during the winter, and while using his snow blower he broke three fingers. He will be out another three months because he underwent surgery to fix his fingers and tendon damage. He still currently has a herniated disc in his back, which was expected to leave him out until mid-January. The past two years he has been plagued by injuries, and was even thinking about retiring last year because of surgery to fix a hernia. This is just another odd injury that took place while an athlete was at home, not even at their job. There have been a bunch of odd injuries this past year throughout all the sports, and for a week of so each athlete has been a laughing stock.
What comes next for Sakic, will he retire at the end of this year or come back for his 21st season? Then also, what will be the next odd injury that happens to one of these big time athletes?

New York Mets

The New York Mets the last two years have come up short in making the playoffs, and the latest addition might help them make it next year. This week the Mets signed the best closing pitcher Francisco Rodriquez, who had the record for most saves in a season, with 62 saves and a 2.24 ERA. The Mets' bullpen has been absolutely terrible the past two years and is the reason for the Mets not to make the playoffs. Every team who faced the Mets wanted to get right to their bullpen because of the all the runs that they as a whole gave up. The only pitcher who came from the bullpen and did their job was Billy Wagner, but he's out for the all of next season with ligament replacement surgery in his elbow.
This will be the type of move, I believe, that will help the Mets make the playoffs next year, after two disappointing seasons. The only thing that I think the Mets should do, is either trade for a legitimate 8th inning guy or even sign another closer and make him pitch the 8th innings. Even if the bullpen is just a little better they should make the playoffs because the last two years they have had late leads in the division before losing them due to their awful bullpen. Also, the Mets are moving into a new stadium, which I think will motivate them. But at the same time will have better home field advantage because all the games will be sold out the whole season.
How do you think the addition of K-Rod will help? And how do you think the Mets will do next year?

Derrick Rose

After being a one and done player in College Basketball out of the University of Memphis, Rose went one to be the top pick in this year's draft. This week he suffered an odd injury while at home. While laying in his own bed, he sliced his arm open and needed ten stitches. This all happened while he was laying in his bed cutting up an apple, then he got up to get something else and came back. He ended up laying back down on his bed and forgot the knife was there, and it cut him. The kids only 20 years old, I think something like this is funny and such a minor mistake, but still the news goes wild over something so minor. I don't think this will effect his play the next couple of weeks while he plays with stitches in his arm.
Do you think this cut will make a difference in the way he plays? Also, do you think something like this will happen again?

The Big Game
This weekend there are two huge games in the College Football world. First there is the game between Florida and Alabama fighting for the SEC Championship, and the second game is Oklahoma and Missouri fighting for the Big 10 Championship. The Florida and Alabama game I believe means more because of the fact that both teams are ranked in the top 10 and the winner will definetely be heading to the BCS Championship game. The Gators have been on fire but also haven't been playing that great of opponents the past couple weeks. They only have one, but it came earlier in the season and only one by one point to Ole Miss, and Alabama is undefeated coming into the week. I believe that the game will be close and Alabama will be playing with a chip on their shoulder because they have the better record and are being called the underdogs.
Then the second game is Oklahoma and Missouri, even though Missouri has been a disappointment this year I think they will bring their A game and play their best game of the year. Oklahoma will go to the BCS Championship if they win the game no matter what, but if they lose the dilemma begins. Texas will most likely end up going for Oklahoma if they lose, but Texas is upset because of the fact that Texas was the only team to beat Oklahoma and it was even in a neutral sight. Missouri on the other hand is playing for a better bowl game this year because they had a worse year than last year. I think Oklahoma will end up winning this game because of their offense and having so many stars.
Who do you think will win Florida or Alabama? Missouri or Oklahoma?

Portland Trailblazers
The Trailblazers are a young team that is showing their skills this year and improving quickly. The team has gotten off to a quick start and has 13 wins and only 6 loses. They are currently tied for first place in the Northwest Division and are currently third in the Western Conference. The reason the team has improved so much in such a sort time is because of their leading scorer Brandon Roy, and top forward in LaMarcus Aldridge. But also, the past years their draft's have been very effective and they have gotten some key players like Greg Oden, Rudy Fernandez, Jerryd Bayless, and Nicolas Batum.
Greg Oden is in his rookie year, but missed all of last year after having surgery to repair damage in his knee. Rudy Fernandez was a star in the Spanish league, and got him in the draft, now he's one of the best players off the bench. Jerryd Bayless doesn't play many minutes, but he could possibly be a star in the league in a couple of years, he just needs time to develop. Then their starting forward Batum, the Blazers picked him up in this years draft and has been a surprise pick. He has been a legitimate starter and is a top defensive player on the team.
What's the Blazers future going to look like? Playoffs? Champions? What do you think about the Blazers?

Free Agents
This year there are some key free agents that are available that could really help a club. Big time pitchers like C.C Sabathia, Francisco Rodriquez, and A.J Burnett. Also, big name outfielders like Manny Ramirez, Adam Dunn, and World Champion Pat Burrell. Each guy could be making ten million plus and team will offer them the money. There are also many infielders, who could really help a team offensively and defensively.
A team could dramatically improve their roster by signing just one of the guy that is a free agent. Teams like Boston and the two New York teams, who have a lot of money, could get two or even three top free agents to fill in the spots. Teams like the Marlins would never sign these expensive free agents because they just don't have the money available. But, who ever does get Manny or C.C will get legitimate players and won't be upset with with what they get. I think Manny will either go back to Los Angeles or New York, then C.C is either going to New York, San Francisco, Milwaukee, or Los Angeles. Both will not end up going to the same place because of the money that both are asking for, but they will not be afraid to wait until they get the most money.
Where do you think C.C and Manny will end up by the end of the off-season?

Plaxico Burress
Burress was a Super Bowl hero last year by catching the winning touchdown catch against the New England Patriots. This year though he has been plagued by injuries with his knees, ankles, and hamstrings. This has affected his play significantly in the fact that he has only 35 receptions and 454 yards receiving. Two nights ago, Burress shot himself, yes himself, in the thigh and spent the night in the hospital. The shot wound was non life threatening, but the shot still went through his thigh and he will have to go through therapy to get the strength back. He, also, has been suspended this year for missing a practice and has been suspended a couple of times in the past.
He has been a top receiver ever since his second year in the league. He has had off field issues that has gotten him suspended and what not, but still some see him as a selfish player. Even if he really is, he has helped the teams that he has been on because he is a star receiver. The defending champ Giants, though, are probably the best team in the NFL and they don't want to have to deal with these issues to distract them from winning back-to-back championships. The other thing that happened two nights ago is the star linebacker and leader of the defense, Antonio Pierce, was with Burress and supposedly hid the gun that shot Burress. This has to be one of the worst things to of happened because now the injured Burress got Pierce in trouble for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Now Burress and even maybe Pierce might face weapons charges because his concealed weapons permit expired.
Do you think the Giants will get rid of Burress? If yes, before the season ends or in the off-season? Then also where do you think Burress' career will go from here?

Stephon Marbury
Marbury has sat out this whole year because of the new coach Mike D'Antoni's decision to not have him in his rotation of players. Marbury has actually refused to play in different games because the team has been dealing with injuries and they need help. I never thought Marbury was a team player and this just shows exactly why the teams he's on usually never wins or goes far in the playoffs. The team needs help from Marbury because within the last week the Knicks have traded three players and the trade never got finalized, so they had three guys out of the usual twelve not available to play. Now that Marbury has displayed this for the whole world to see his chances of getting signed by another team are very slim. I highly doubt any team would want to sing him now that all this has happened. I think he should just go to Europe and play for a team over there because his time is up in the NBA. He may not accept it, but it's probably the only way he will be playing the game he loves because NBA teams don't like ball hogs.
So, what do you think Stephon Marbury should do now that it looks like the New York Knick will buy out his contract?

The Detroit Lions

This team needs serious help. They have the worst team in the NFL and doesn't look any better the next couple of years. Even if they get the top pick that player won't help that much at all because of all the bad players that surround the whole team. It's truly sad how bad they have been since Barry Sanders Retired years ago, and the team needs to start all over. The only way the team will get back to the playoffs is by getting rid of all the older players and getting young and energetic guys that will bring a new look to the team. What makes things worse is they sign a retired quarterback, Daunte Culpepper, and he hasn't helped at all.
No one expects the Lions to even win a game this year because of the schedule they have. I don't expect them to even come close to getting a win because their team just stinks and they are terrible. They have actually came close to winning by having leads in some of the games, but ended up losing that lead within minutes. Ever since their former General Manager, who just got fired this year, got to the team that's when it started going down hill.
Do you think the Lions will win a game this year, if yes then when and against whom? Also, in how many years will it take until the Lions become good again?

Florida Panthers

About a fourth of the way through the season and the Panthers are in last place. The team got off to an okay start and now they are in last place in their division. Also, they are one of the worst teams in the entire league and only having 15 points through 17 games is terrible. I still don't get why they traded their best player in Olli Jokinen, to get some average players that won't even make a difference to the team. I have gone to some of the home games and it's sad how many people are showing up to the games because half of the stadium is empty. Then last week while I was at the Panthers game when they faced the Detroit Red Wings, there were more Red Wing fans than Panther fans. It's always more fun to have teams that win around, so when you actually go to the games it's better and more exciting.
If the Panthers want to win I think that they have to just get more physical with their opponent because they always don't seem into the games. They end up just getting skated around and the other team makes it look easy on them. But also, the goalies are giving up easy goals to their opponents, and one of the goalkeepers needs to step it up. If only the season could start over and they could redo some of the games because now that lost so many games it will be hard for them to came back in the standings to have a chance in the playoffs.
How do you think the Panthers will end up doing this year?

Florida Marlins
The Marlins are again shipping their players this off-season, like every year. The Marlins are always accused of just giving away their better players just to get younger players and the fans hate this. This off-season they have already given up their starting first baseman, pitcher, outfielder, and even their closing pitcher. Then, their starting second baseman and another outfielder are on the hot seat and could be traded any day now. The fans hate how the team trades their players because the team never signs big free agents, so then their team is never expected to do anything. The Marlins are trying to save up money for their new stadium that should be being built very soon, but I just don't see a stadium making a huge difference.
Do you think that the Marlins will trade anymore of their players? How do you think they will end up doing next year with some new faces around the field? Click here to see the up to date transactions that the Marlins make.

College Basketball
This week was the start to NCAA basketball and there are so high hopes for some teams that are ranked. The top 25 have begun to play the cupcakes just to get some cheap and easy wins, which help teams, make the tournament. There are some teams like UCLA and UNC who have top high school players all over their team and even have top recruits sitting on the bench because there isn't enough room to play all them. All the teams have to same goal right now and it's to make the tournament and look forward into playing in March for the title. Last year was an exciting year and the championship game was memorable and this year it can only get better. This year there are some new rules that were Incorporated and the major one, is that the three point line was moved back a whole foot. It may not seem like a big deal, but a foot is a foot and the farther back the line is the worse percentage the players have to make the basket. Therefore, these tall guys who are average shooters won't be taking those three pointers that they were used to taking and they will have settle with shots that are higher percentage. Last years champs the Kansas Jayhawks lost their whole starting five and aren't likely to repeat because of it. Then the losers of the championship game, Memphis Tigers, lost key guys to last year's team and got top recruits and should be average, but probably won't make the final four again. The season is still young and teams just began their way to making the NCAA tournament, and this year should be an exciting one with all these new freshman and returning guys.
What four teams will make it to the final four and who will be the winner of the NCAA tournament?

Miami Heat
The Miami Heat are a young team that is being led by their leader Dewayne Wade. In basketball one player can't make a team and he needs help around him so the Heat don't have a season like last year. They have started slowly by only going 4-4, but are also missing one of their best players in Shawn Marion. Marion is a different kind of player for his size and position because he's only 6'7" and plays more down low than anything. He has to have the worst shot I have ever seen out of any professional basketball player, but some how still can shoot the ball better than most the other players.
The Heat first need a real center because their team is so small they are getting dominated by players who are 6'10" and not even the tallest player on the different teams. Without a dominate big man the team will just get manhandled by average teams on the boards, which kills their chances of winning close games. As a team in the NBA, the Heat can't lose on the boards night in and night out because teams will learn how to exploit this and have the upper hand on the Heat. I think the Heat will have a better record than last year but still be a sub par team and won't win more than half their games unless they pick up a descent center before the trading deadline.
How do you think the Heat will do this year?

Rockies and Athletics Trade

The Colorado Rockies dealt their superstar Matt Holliday to the low-budget Oakland A's. It was a surprise to know that Holliday went to the one team who was probably the least expected team to acquire him. The Oakland A's had to give up reliever Houston Street, starter Greg Smith, and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez for Holliday. What makes it shocking is that Smith and Gonzalez were acquired last year from the Arizona Diamondbacks for ace Dan Haren and now both got traded for a new star. The Rockies got two young pitchers one who's had some troubles lately and the other who is really young and could be a star in years to come. Then Carlos Gonzalez is a promising outfielder, who is quick, a better than average fielder, and a decent hitter, but still has room to improve.
The Oakland A's are usually known as being a team that trades away their up and coming players, who have proved themselves, for younger players who need a little time to develop before becoming stars. So when the news came yesterday that the A's acquired a star like Holliday it was very interesting and not the usual. Being from the Oakland area, the team is always fun to watch, but they never sell out during the season because they are always an average team. This upcoming year the people sitting upstairs have different thoughts on the team and got motivation from the Rays, in that, if they have a solid team they have a shot at making the World Series.
How do you think the Rockies will do this year knowing that they gave up a huge piece of their offense? Then how do you think the A's will do knowing they picked up a phenomenal hitter?
And what are your thoughts about the trade itself?

NY Giants at Philadelphia Eagles

Last nights came down to the last minute when the Eagles drove down the field but got stopped on two straight running plays. If the Eagles just converted just one of the two plays, they would have had a great shot at winning the game because of the momentum they would have gotten from the play. I would have to go against Andy Reid's coaching decisions in that situation to run the ball when the Eagles have a banged up running back, Brian Westbrook, and also they have an elite quarterback in Donavon McNabb. The Giants are one of the best defenses in the NFL and to go up against that and succeed would have been a great momentum booster, but it didn't go to well.
The Giants had a huge game on the ground and had over 200 yards, with Brandon Jacobs having over 120 yards alone. This just shows that the defending Super Bowl champions are still a power house and are favorites in this year's Super Bowl. The Eagles on the other hand are still a better than average team and still have a shot at the Wildcard spot for the playoffs. They have a strong defense and high potent offense that can put points on the board, so they aren't out just yet.
Click here to view the box score of the game. Do you think that the Giants have a shot at back-to-back Super Bowls or are they overrated? Then, do you think the Eagles will make the playoffs? Yes or no? Why or why not?

Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders were one of the best franchises of all time and now they are the most undesired teams in the NFL. The owner Al Davis has ruined the franchise and destroyed the name, Raiders. This franchise has been in the toilet now ever since they lost the Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Then in past weeks they lost their coach Lane Kiffin and recently just cut a former pro-bowler DeAngelo Hall, who they acquired this off-season. The whole franchise has been under scrutiny the past years because of what Al Davis has been doing with the coaches, players, and even managers. This team needs to fire Al, most the coaches, almost all of the players because of what they have shown in past years and been very uncompetitive. The Raiders used to be my favorite team being from the Oakland area, and seeing them now come in last and boring games, made me just lose all interest in the team.
Now that the team released Hall, he can actually go to a contender rather than staying on one of the worst teams in the NFL. The Oakland Raiders have been one of the worst defenses and worst passing offenses in the entire leagues and it doesn't look to be improving anytime soon. The offense has been the biggest weakness and the offense is holding back to entire team itself, the defense isn't that bad but when they are staying on the field so long they all get tired and give up the big plays. The franchise just needs a new start beginning with the owner.
What do you think the Raiders should do to get back to what they were in the past? Click here to find up the date news on the team and even watch the game live.

Manny Being Manny

Manny Ramirez is now one of the hottest free agents on the market. The Los Angeles Dodgers are willing to pay him 50 million dollars for two years or 75 million dollars for three years, which would make him one of the highest paid players in the league. He would be the highest paid player ever in Dodgers franchise history and second highest salary in the league behind Alex Rodriquez. Manny has been known for antics in past years when he was with the Boston Red Sox, but it hasn't affected his play on the field. So, do the Dodgers take the chances with him with all that money and hope he doesn't burst like before or just go out and look for younger players who will improve. I think that Manny would be a great addition to the Dodgers and I don't believe that he will act up if he is happy with everything in the organization.
Do you believe it would be a good idea to sign Manny, even with past blow ups?

Texas at Texas Tech
The top rated Texas Longhorns lost last night in the last couple seconds of the game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Michael Crabtree had the game winning touchdown reception for 28 yards. The Texas Longhorns were believed to be the best team in the nation after beating the University of Oklahoma and going undefeated until last night. Now that Texas went down and suffered their first loss, Graham Harrell I would believe is the leading Heisman contender because of the win. This just shows how any team that gets that number one ranking ends up going down within a week or two. Also, it just shows that College Football needs a playoff because no one knows who the best team in the nation is.
Who do you think should be the number one ranked team? Do you think the BCS should change to a playoffs? Who do you think deserves the Heisman trophy?

Gators at Bulldogs

The Florida Gators will be trying to get back at the Georgia Bulldogs for last years celebration that was requested by the Bulldogs Coach. The entire Bulldogs team went out on the field to celebrate a touchdown and this disgusted the entire University of Florida, of how classless their opponent was. The Gators ended up losing the game and this year the Gators want revenge not only for the play, but to knock out the Dogs of the BCS standings. This game should be an exciting one, but I believe that both teams are overrated and shouldn't be given the chances they get to be in the BCS bowls. I, also, believe that the so-called "Heisman" winner Tim Tebow will show how overrated and average of a player he really is because there is so much hype around him and he's not even that good.
This game will determine whether either team could make in the BCS Championship game. The Bulldogs with the win will get a boost to a better ranking and a better chance to get back into the race. Then if the Gators win they will go even higher up and have a great chance at the Championship game. So, this game can make or break both teams' season.
Who do you think will come up on top on Saturday?

NBA
The NBA's opening games were last night as the Boston Celtics, the defending champs, won last night against LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers. Also, the Chicago Bulls beat the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, the favorites to win it all this year, beat the up and coming Portland Trailblazers. The Celtics are looking to repeat this year and go back to what the team was like in the 1960's and their journey for another banner began last night. This season will be an exciting one and don't be shocked if an underdog team has a little run for the title because it's happened before.
Who do you think will come up big and be the MVP of the league? Also, who do you think will win it all and be the team holding up the trophy at the end of the season?

The World Series
The World Series has come down to one more game and possibly more. If the Phillies win tonight then they win it all, but the ice cold Rays won't let their season be over so soon. They want to keep playing into November if possible. I believe that the Rays will win tonight to make the series two to three going back to Tropicana Field because the Rays hitters can't stay so cold the whole World Series.
Who do you think will win tonight?

University of Arizona
The whole school of Arizona took a huge blow this week with the loss of the legend Lute Olson. He has been at the school for 24 seasons and led the basketball team to one National Championship and four Final Fours. The basketball program lost a key asset to the future of the team because Lute Olson, being the Hall of Famer he is, got top recruits to go to University of Arizona to play for him. Now that he retired the school will most likely lose top recruits that he pulled in from all over the country. This will end up hurting the whole program and wouldn't be surprising if the school goes from an elite to a mediocre team because the school won't be able to bring in top recruits anymore.
Before this all happened in the middle of the week, the entire school was looking forward to the football game that is coming up on Saturday. This is going to be the biggest game of the year for the Wildcats against the fifth ranked USC Trojans at home. They can make a huge statement to the College Football world if they can beat the Trojans, just like last year when they upset the number 2 ranked and undefeated Oregon Ducks. The Zona Zoo will be going nuts to cause a commotion to stir up the USC offense and make their team have home field advantage when they go for the upset. The game is on at 10:15 pm Eastern time on Saturday on all the FSN channels.
Who do you think will win the game? Should there be an upset alert for this game?

Phillies at Rays
Tonight is the first night of the World Series and it should be an exciting series. The Rays are an inspiring team who has the 29th ranked pay roll, which is the lowest for a team that made the World Series. The Rays are also, one of the youngest teams with a bunch of talent. For instance, the two top hitters B.J Upton, 24, and Evan Longoria, 23, are young super stars and these guys are going to be scary good if they keep improving at the rate they are going. Then comes the man who saved the 7th game of the ALCS, David Price, who is also 23 and was even thinking about quiting baseball his freshman year in college. Then he becomes the number one pick in last year's draft. This is truly one of the best stories in all of sports.
The Phillies are a very talented team, who has superstars all over the infield. The two past MVP's in Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins, and then Chase Utley, who was a leading candidate earlier in the 2008 season. You can't forget about the Flying Hawaiian Shane Victorino, who is on fire hitting in the postseason. Also, the Phillies starting pitching have been consistent and been pitching with confidence and the bullpen consists of the best closer in the Major Leagues, Brad Lidge, who hasn't blown a save all year. The experts tend to believe that the Phillies have one of the best bullpens in the Major Leagues and that this will be one factor that swings towards the Phillies. The factor that the Rays do have is that their stadium can get very loud because it's a dome and the sound projects inside the stadium and never leaves. Tropicana Field has turf, which the Phillies have not played on all year. This may not seem like much, but turf and regular grass are totally different and the ball takes completely different bounces on the surfaces.
The whole city of St. Petersburg is supporting the Rays because they have never experienced the whole World Series experience. To come together as a team most of the team got Mohawks, even John Maddon, the coach, got one. People all over St. Petersburg are appearing with these Mohawks to support the team and some people even have colored their hair the same color as the team color. Also, to support the team and to make the stadium chaotic the fans are buying cowbells, YES COWBELLS!
